What can be the most famous place to visit in the birthplace of Goddess Aphrodite? Well the obvious choice will be the sanctuary of Aphrodite which is about 14 kilometers from Paphos, this is considered by the locals to be a site of sacred pilgrimage, though not much remains on these holy grounds, but the archeological excavations have revealed the finding of conical shaped stones depicting the idols of goddess Aphrodite.
In the earlier times during spring festivals there used to be a procession carried out separately by men and women from new Paphos to paleo Paphos to honour Adonis and Aphrodite, a fair was also held at these grounds. Other places to visit near this site includes the Leda Mosaic house and La Cavocle site museum which is housed in Lusignan Manor and displays ratification from 9th century in it's galleries. The Sanctuary of Aphrodite is open all day on weekends and from 7:30 am to 2:30 in the afternoon during weekdays.
